Passages: the site serves one commentary for a passage on the page of each of its ayahs; consecutive ayahs of one surah whose pages serve the same commentary form one record with that range. An ayah whose page serves no commentary of its own joins a neighbouring passage only when that passage quotes it. Changes: only the HTML markup of the commentary block was removed: block elements became paragraphs separated by one blank line, a line-break tag a line feed, inline tags gave their text unchanged; the character references (  « » >) were replaced by the characters they name; white space of the markup was collapsed to one space and dropped at the edges of a paragraph; the footnotes stay where the page has them, after the text, with their markers; nothing else was changed.
