Surah 85 البروج
22 Verses
Meccan
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ Verse 1
By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,
Verse 1, Where in the source
وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ Verse 2
And by the Promised Day.
Verse 2, Where in the source
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ Verse 3
And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,
Verse 3, Where in the source
قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ Verse 4
(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch
Verse 4, Where in the source
ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ Verse 5
Of the fuel-fed fire,
Verse 5, Where in the source
إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ Verse 6
When they sat by it,
Verse 6, Where in the source
وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ Verse 7
And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
Verse 7, Where in the source
وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ Verse 8
They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,
Verse 8, Where in the source
ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ Verse 9
Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
Verse 9, Where in the source
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ Verse 10
Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ Verse 11
Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.
Verse 11, Where in the source
إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ Verse 12
Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.
Verse 12, Where in the source
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ Verse 13
Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,
Verse 13, Where in the source
وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ Verse 14
And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
Verse 14, Where in the source
ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ Verse 15
Lord of the Throne of Glory,
Verse 15, Where in the source
فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ Verse 16
Doer of what He will.
Verse 16, Where in the source
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ Verse 17
Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts
Verse 17, Where in the source
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ Verse 18
Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?
Verse 18, Where in the source
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ Verse 19
Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial
Verse 19, Where in the source
وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ Verse 20
And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.
Verse 20, Where in the source
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ Verse 21
Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.
Verse 21, Where in the source
فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ Verse 22
On a guarded tablet.
