Surah 78 النبإ
40 Verses
Meccan
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ Verse 1
Whereof do they question one another?
Verse 1, Where in the source
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Verse 2
(It is) of the awful tidings,
Verse 2, Where in the source
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ Verse 3
Concerning which they are in disagreement.
Verse 3, Where in the source
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ Verse 4
Nay, but they will come to know!
Verse 4, Where in the source
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ Verse 5
Nay, again, but they will come to know!
Verse 5, Where in the source
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا Verse 6
Have We not made the earth an expanse,
Verse 6, Where in the source
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا Verse 7
And the high hills bulwarks?
Verse 7, Where in the source
وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا Verse 8
And We have created you in pairs,
Verse 8, Where in the source
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا Verse 9
And have appointed your sleep for repose,
Verse 9, Where in the source
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا Verse 10
And have appointed the night as a cloak,
Verse 10, Where in the source
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا Verse 11
And have appointed the day for livelihood.
Verse 11, Where in the source
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا Verse 12
And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
Verse 12, Where in the source
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا Verse 13
And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
Verse 13, Where in the source
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا Verse 14
And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water,
Verse 14, Where in the source
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا Verse 15
Thereby to produce grain and plant,
Verse 15, Where in the source
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا Verse 16
And gardens of thick foliage.
Verse 16, Where in the source
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا Verse 17
Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
Verse 17, Where in the source
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا Verse 18
A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,
Verse 18, Where in the source
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا Verse 19
And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
Verse 19, Where in the source
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا Verse 20
And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
Verse 20, Where in the source
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا Verse 21
Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,
Verse 21, Where in the source
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا Verse 22
A home for the rebellious.
Verse 22, Where in the source
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا Verse 23
They will abide therein for ages.
Verse 23, Where in the source
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا Verse 24
Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
Verse 24, Where in the source
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا Verse 25
Save boiling water and a paralysing cold:
Verse 25, Where in the source
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا Verse 26
Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).
Verse 26, Where in the source
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا Verse 27
For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
Verse 27, Where in the source
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا Verse 28
They called Our revelations false with strong denial.
Verse 28, Where in the source
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا Verse 29
Everything have We recorded in a Book.
Verse 29, Where in the source
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا Verse 30
So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.
Verse 30, Where in the source
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا Verse 31
Lo! for the duteous is achievement -
Verse 31, Where in the source
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا Verse 32
Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
Verse 32, Where in the source
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا Verse 33
And voluptuous women of equal age;
Verse 33, Where in the source
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا Verse 34
And a full cup.
Verse 34, Where in the source
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا Verse 35
There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying -
Verse 35, Where in the source
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا Verse 36
Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment -
Verse 36, Where in the source
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا Verse 37
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.
Verse 37, Where in the source
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا Verse 38
On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.
Verse 38, Where in the source
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا Verse 39
That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.
Verse 39, Where in the source
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا Verse 40
Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"
